A free classifieds platform has very different requirements from a company site — an active user base, registrations, ad publishing and moderation, filtered search and stability under peak traffic. An off-the-shelf solution gave no control over per-ad SEO, which is decisive for a classifieds site.
They needed a custom PHP and MySQL platform built to grow.
The solution
romb.co.uk is a custom-built UK free classifieds platform. The architecture is deeper than a typical company site — active user base, registration, personal accounts, ad publishing, filtered search and category navigation.
The platform is built in PHP and MySQL, designed to withstand traffic. It includes ad moderation, featured ads with premium visibility, personal profile with publishing history and a messaging system between users.
SEO is a critical factor for a classifieds site — individual URLs per ad, structured data and optimisation for long-tail search.
